Poems

Division

Heartbreak and heartache.

My head spins from what I see

This chaos, this gore, this violence

What is happening to my nation, my home, my people?

The screen lights up and flashes

There’s something new every week

A new unbearable pain, another atrocity

People argue, one group against the other, only two sides to choose from

Neither blue nor red have the answers

Golden ticket, golden candidate, the golden sham

It’s We the People who must stand higher than high

Violent responses must cease

Uproot the wicked and cast out the vile

Killing with kindness is the way, not with a weapon

Fill the world with positivity and drown out the hate

Stand strong in your convictions with love, not war

You are an American, I am an American, we are the United States of America

Love thy neighbor as thyself and shed your hate and prejudice

Set yourself free with peace and goodwill toward humankind

United we stand — divided we fall

Have you forgotten the wise words of old?

Perhaps…

A house divided cannot stand

Let us mend our house

Will you join me?
