Wardrobes
A boy arrives most places by foot, it gives him the time to think. The ground makes noises from the scrape of his vintage boots. His mind runs wildly on this walk, he fights with himself, thinking, always pondering. Thinking is most of what he does anymore, he feels trapped, almost like he's inside of a wardrobe. Wardrobes contain a secret desperate to be revealed. Smiles and fraudulent jests are what he uses to mask the pains hidden within his prison. He realizes that it's the inner coffin both boys and girls sometimes have bear. He is trapped and no one can set him free, not the knight in shining armor, nor the Devine can break his chains for him, it's the man from within that needs to emerge from this wardrobe to secure his own future. The strength to emerge doesn't bless all, only those who truly wish to be free can refurbish both inner and outer selves. This boy then walks home to eradicate the cage presently posing triumphantly in defiance, soon to not stand another day. Although not all understand his heart's desire, he is swept with warmth once those words slipped from his quavering lips. He has to cut loose those not willing to stand an ally of his love, but they aren't deserving of clarity or a position in this boy's world. So he stands up against those that curse him, breaking free from negative stereotypes to claim his love in the proud eyes of the Devine for all to see. Bursting with confidence, he packs up to travel starting anew. For the first time, he doesn’t feel tied down, but free to be with the one who sees him for who he is. And so they drive.
- This prose poem is about the experience of an LGBT teen coming out of the "closet" to his parents resulting in his departure with his significant other from lack of support.
