Cliffside

I move through the trees with haste

But I am halted by a cliff face

The vision of you keeps me placed.

An ocean far and wide as the eye can see, sun glowing gold, sky pale blue.

This calms me lightly, but then I’m gripped by unease.

You’re setting sail, leaving, heading far away.

There’s no way down, I can’t reach you, and I can’t stop you.

All I can do is watch.

You disengage from the dock and begin to drift away

Your image so crisp and clear now fades as you head further from me.

You are but a spec set straight on the horizon.

You will soon be a distant memory, I close my eyes and picture your smile.

It becomes blurred and increases the longer you’re away.

I may not remember the detail in your face, but I will never forget you even as I wait on this cliffside, will you ever return?
